Confession time. I never in my life thought I’d write an article about the best sauna towels, whether that be for your infrared or traditional dry (Finnish) sauna adventures, or otherwise. But here we are.
And here’s why I did:
Here at the Squad, we’re all about optimizing your sauna experience and towels are an underrated part of the experience.
Anyone who has forgotten to take a towel with them into a sauna knows this. You get sweat in your eyes and all over the wood. It’s just not a pleasant experience. Quite honestly it should be illegal to sauna without a soft, high-quality towel.
Before we dive in, yes, I know this is a strange topic. So let’s have some fun with it. I hope you like basketball references.

Should you use a towel in the sauna?
Yes, you should most definitely use a towel or wrap in the sauna. If you’re anything like me, you’re going to sweat like a hog in the summer during your sauna session. And the sweat needs somewhere to go. It can create an unhygienic environment if you’re sweating all over the place, especially if you’re not cleaning your sauna regularly.
But other than hygiene, towels also provide comfort. No matter if you’re clothed or nude in the sauna, you’ll want to sit on a towel in the sauna to increase your comfort level (and to avoid leaving sweat stains on the wood).
And you respect wood, right?
What is the best sauna towel material?
The best towel material will depend on which sauna type you’re in. For an infrared sauna that is a strictly dry heat, a high thread count cotton towel is likely best for maximum comfortability. They’re ultra soft and absorbent but don’t necessarily dry as quickly as linen towels.
For more steamy environments like a traditional Finnish sauna, we recommend going with a woven linen towel. Although they may not be as soft as cotton, they dry quicker and tend to wick moisture away better than cotton.
If you’re going the cotton route, we recommend looking into Turkish or Egyptian cotton products for maximum comfort. If you’re looking for linen products, a high thread count is a must.
The 5 best towels for your sauna sessions
We put together a list of the best towels for you in 2024 for your viewing pleasure. Just a note, this is by no means a comprehensive list, we just know that you’ll be happy with any one of the recommended products. So you don’t have to scour the internet comparing products. We got you.
1. Best towel for infrared saunas
Ariv Premium Bamboo Cotton Bath Towel
The best towel for infrared sauna goes to the Ariv Premium Bamboo Cotton Bath Towel. This is hands down the softest towel around. So if you’re looking to pamper yourself a little while you hop in your sauna, this is the towel that will take it up a notch.
These are the LeBron James of cotton towels, if you will.
2. Best towel for traditional Finnish saunas
Pure 100% Linen Bath Towel
If you’re a sauna traditionalist using a Finnish style sauna, you’ll want to check out the Pure 100% Linen Bath Towels. They have a simple, natural elegance to them.
They’re made from quality linen, which means they’re quick-drying yet lightweight and absorbent. 100% recommend.
These are the Larry Bird of linen towels.
3. Best quick dry towel
GILDEN TREE Microfiber Waffle Bath Towels
- While these towels are made from neither cotton nor linen, microfiber is undeniably the best quick-drying material out there. And the GILDEN TREE waffle towels are soft, absorbent, and wick away moisture. What a combo.
These are the Wilt Chamberlain of microfiber towels.
4. Best luxury towel
Mosobam 700 GSM Hotel Luxury Bamboo Cotton Towel
- Can a towel be an experience? If not, the Mosobam Luxury Towel is as close as it gets. The first thing you’ll notice is how soft and plush they are. They feel significant (weird descriptor, I know, but it fits). They’re truly wonderful.
We’ve dubbed the Mosobam the best luxury towel but it might as well be “best mood enhancing towel”. Combine that with a good sauna session and you’re headed towards perfection.
To continue the basketball analogy, this a Steph Curry + Golden State Warriors level combo.
5. Best Sauna Towel Wrap
FABBRICA HOME Natural Rayon Sauna Spa Wrap
- Crafted from bamboo-cotton blend for superior softness and absorbency
- Features natural anti-microbial properties ideal for sauna use
- Includes elastic band and adjustable Velcro for a comfortable, secure fit
- The Becky Hammon of sauna towel wraps, if you will
6. Best overall towel
Classic Turkish Luxury Bath Towel
- The best overall towel has to be the Classic Turkish Luxury Bath Towel. This towel is said to be softer than clouds, more absorbent than a dry lawn in the summer and more durable than diamonds.
- I may have exaggerated some of the details there, but the Classic Turkish Luxury towel is extremely soft, absorbent and durable. My wife and I use these for our sauna sessions and they are well worth it in my humble opinion.
- Truly the Michael Jordan of towels.
